Athlete nutrition is an area that needs to be perfect and not designed from those false nutrition myths. Athletes need energy PERIOD! Not a bunch of over hyped supplements, protein powders, etc. FOUNDATION is where it needs to start. The right caloric level to max goals like fat loss, muscle gain, or maintain weight all with performance increase. It isn’t just eat a lot or eat a little. Specificity is a must! Why try to get a 5% edge through exercise and not through nutrition. That is like doing cardio so you can eat more….just ridiculous.

Youth performance for sports is an area that I do not hold back in letting a professional or company know they are wrong if they are exploiting this market. Because the parents want the best for their kids it is easy for them to be fooled by the big names or perceptions are mislead because famous names are thrown around. There are many great programs and methods out there that guide kids and parents in the right direction, but how to distinguish between what is good or bad.
First thing is to interview the people that run the programs. Straight find out if they know the developmental stages of youth. Second make sure they are pro-injury prevention…further than that have them tell you the outline of how they accomplish injury prevention now and in the future. Third if their claims are to good to be true…ask what specific methods cause these results.
Take notes so you can always look back and see if things don’t match up. Over time by being this involved you will learn and eventually be able to be a huge support in your child’s successes.

Balance is a foundation for any fitness goal whether you are a Senior Citizen or a Pro Athlete. Any true fitness professional understands the importance of this – as we age balance decreases and quality of life does as well. Same for an athlete, as balance decreases so does performance.
Why does balance matter?
Think about it! We use balance everyday to do all tasks. When you walk, run, reaching over to grab something barley in your reach. Even getting in your car. On the sport or activity side we jump/land on one leg, climb mountains, hike up down uneven grounds, sprint and change direction, etc.
With everything we do there are different abilities caused by that persons ability of balance. A 20 year old getting in a car compared to a 90 year old that needs a cane to help balance when walking. A running back compared to a behind the desk worker. One thing each group has in common is the best ones have better balance! This is because since we have two legs and there is a thing called center of gravity that we must be able to control, all movements start with a good foundation. A poor foundation and you get a poor structure or at least eventually.
To improve balance is a combination flexibility, strength, stabilization, control, understanding, endurance and mobility control in all planes of motion. But a start would be to practice just simple balancing! To learn more just email or comment and I can send you comprehensive literature on this area.

Cardio is similar to resistance training in that progressions are required and prevention of overtraining. There is a standard for health benefits but most do cardio for weight loss. A well designed program can accomplish all these goals.

As have learned more and more about muscle development I have seen how there can be so many misconceptions on how to do it. From the chest developing exercise to the supplement that gives 300% increases in muscle, all are false claims that fool millions every year. And sadly that side of the fitness industry is where all the billions of dollars are spent by consumers. I feel this misguidance that causes failures most of the time leads many to use illegal drugs. It is no secret majority of those guys in the muscle mags are using them.
NO FEAR though! If you have a solid nutrition plan and exercise program you too can put on that muscle you want. I’m not talking about a program made from all those myths and fads. It has to be 100% science based. All my muscle building clients end up with more muscle than most users because my clients continue to grow over time and don’t lose the muscle like when the users get off their cycles. So if you are looking for long term health and muscle, find a professional that can help. You will save hundreds of dollars by doing so.

SQA are three areas that an athlete needs to develop to full potential. There are many exercises and drills used to develop these skills but NONE cause an athlete to hit full potential just because they do the exercises. Unfortunately due to lack of knowledge, trying to increase profits, or/and being unethical, businesses or trainers claim their exercises are the magic solution.
I could claim this specialization in SQA is something that allows my programs to be the magic bullet. But the fact is that it is only a component of a complete program. Whether it is fat loss, muscle building, or sports performance it takes a system of many areas of program design to peak anyone’s goals. So through the 11+ years of my profession all education and trials & errors have all contributed toward my current system.
So don’t fall for those out there that use only one method or a current method. Look for those that have developed their system through large diverse education, use of many mentors, and allow change in their own system as new science comes along.

Senior Fitness is a very technical specialization. Yes exercise is important for seniors because it allows a better quality of life. Where I take it 10 steps further is that balance, reaction, different planes of movement, flexibility programs all need to be individually designed. Yes again workouts that are at their ability is good but the question is what actually improves FULL quality of life. Learn more just contact me.
